Gas Mileage Tips for Your Arkansas Work Truck

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Perform Regular Maintenance Tasks
You’ll use less gas if you keep your work truck tuned up and running like it should. Read your work truck owner’s manual and make sure your tires are inflated as the manufacturer recommends. Under inflation creates a drag that reduces fuel economy. Don’t forget about your work truck’s wheel alignment.  If your work truck is not rolling straight, you won’t get optimum gas mileage.

Plan Your Route
On work days and on weekends, whenever you drive your work truck, plan your routes to avoid congested, high-traffic areas with construction and stop-and-go driving.  When your route requires you to be on the Arkansas interstates, be sure to set your cruise control on your work truck.

Are you feeling a pinch from fuel prices?  Like most of us, the crunch is making us more tuned-in to gas-saving alternatives.  While some people can trade in their large vehicles for something more fuel efficient, you need a work truck that can pull your work trailer, so trading your work truck in for a small fuel efficient car is really not an option.

You’ll find that some of the gas mileage improvements are easy to accomplish just by staying aware of gas saving basics and changing old habits. Plus, these work truck gas mileage tips also help keep the air we all breathe a little cleaner.

The next several blog posts will provide tips about how to get better gas mileage for your Arkansas work truck.

Save Money on Fuel – Watch Your Work Truck Speed

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

You’ve been there before, perhaps even recently:

“The clock reads 9:50AM, your next appointment is at 10AM, and you still have work to do on your current project at 4232 Middle-of-Nowhere Road.”

SpeedLimitSignWhat ends up happening?

As soon as you finish your job, you jump into your cargo van, passenger van, utility truck, flat bed truck, or box truck and rush like a bat out of the underworld to get to your next assignment.  You push the pedal to the metal, baby, and even manage to buy back some of lost time (…though not much).

Unfortunately, you end up spending extra cash (…and way too much) in wasted fuel costs.  According to the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”):

“Drivers can expect a 10- to 15- percent improvement in fuel economy by driving 55 mph instead of 65 mph; and likewise can expect an equivalent decline by driving 65 mph instead of 55 mph. ”

Needless to say, try pacing yourself on the job by keeping an eye on the clock.

Hopefully once it’s time for you to hit the road you won’t need to drive so fast and, in turn, won’t spend all of that extra money on wasted gas.

If interested in learning more about how to maintain a fuel vehicle, come visit us at T&B Auto Sales.   We sell used arkansas work trucks, work vans, and commercial vehicles.
