Fuel Economy in a Ford F-150

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Fuel economy isn’t as important to these true truckers as it is to those who would use their pickups as an alternative to cars for everyday city commuting and family hauling, but it is a factor nonetheless.

Those who use pickups as work trucks in their jobs often don’t have other, more fuel-efficient vehicles to drive while away from work, and to them, fuel economy is a real issue.

So while the 2009 F-150, comes with V-8 power, Ford boosted fuel economy by about 8 percent across the entire line, and added special SFE models – that stands for “superior fuel economy” – that have EPA ratings of 21 miles per gallon on the highway.

Whether you’re a Ford, Chevrolet or Dodge fan, at T&B Auto, we’ve got Arkansas’ largest selection of used work trucksused flatbed trucksused dump bed trucksused utility trucksused box trucksused cargo vans and used passenger vans.

Silverado: Plenty of Power

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

The 2009 Silverado is one of the easiest full-size pickups to drive, with great communicative steering and refined, responsive engines.

The 5.3-liter has plenty of power for most needs without much lower fuel economy than the base V-6.

The stadium-style rear seat that’s offered on the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado has a 60/40-split design, and it can be easily folded up to provide an uninterrupted load floor.

For extra versatility, either section of the split seat can be stowed independently, allowing room for both cargo and a rear-seat passenger, and the rear access doors on extended-cab models open 170 degrees.

Make the 2009 Chevy Silverado Your Next Work Truck

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The 2009 Chevy Silverado features a six-speed automatic transmission with 5.3-, 6.0-, and 6.2-liter engines, while a more powerful, E85-capable 6.2-liter V-8 is available in the crew cab.

By lowering the freeway rpm, the new Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic helps achieve better fuel efficiency and reduced noise levels.

Furthermore, the Silverado’s towing capacity is now 7,000 pounds, a 400-pound increase. The E85-capable 6.2-liter features variable valve timing and is rated at 403 horsepower; base Silverados do just fine with a 195-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6.

2009 GMC Sierra Makes Nice Work Truck

Monday, February 8th, 2010

The 2009 GMC Sierra features minor refinements and a few additions.

The Sierra is built on a stiff platform for a smooth ride and sharp handling. The GMC Sierra shares platforms with the Chevy Silverado but its exterior styling is quite different.

The 6.2-liter V8 used in the Denali is also available in regular trim Crew Cab pickups with four-wheel drive for more power and fuel consumption.

Sierra offers a choice of cab styles and bed lengths, and nine engine choices (of five sizes). There are limitations however, such as the biggest engine is limited to Crew Cabs, the 6-liter does not go in regular cab or extended cab long bed trucks, and manual transmissions are not offered.

Why Buy a Used Truck for Work?

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Anyone who has really used their work truck as a work truck, knows that it always eventually ends up looking like… well, a used work truck!

Scratches from hauling branches, dents from loading materials and tools and dirt from job sites eventually start to make its way into the cosmetics of your truck. This makes buying a used work truck make much more sense.

Please don’t misunderstand, the used work trucks we have available on our lot are in excellent shape, and have no signs of excessive wear and tear. My point is that if you are going to buy a truck for work it makes much more sense to buy a used work truck over a new one, especially if you anticipate using it, well, like a work truck!

Plus, you’ll save money by buying a used work truck in Arkansas.

Work Trucks and Trailer Hitches

Monday, January 25th, 2010

A trailer coupler is a mechanical device that connects a trailer to the hitch of the tow vehicle.  Work trucks are one of the most common vehicles that need trailer hitches.

Work trucks often pull large trailers loaded down with equipment or landscape materials.

Trailer couplers come in several different configurations, but all work by clamping around the hitch ball. Some couplers employing a hand wheel to tighten the clamp to the ball; another common arrangement is a lever or toggle to lock the coupler.

Driving Your Work Truck on Ice or Snow

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

If you have a four-wheel drive work truck, it’s a helpful option but it isn’t a cure-all for winter driving problems.  Here are a couple of tips to help when you drive your work truck on snow or ice.  The good news is, if you’re in Arkansas, snow and ice is not a real common problem!

Drive on Matching Tires

When you purchase a used work truck, be sure to kick the tires—and make sure the tires are the same size. Tires that differ in circumference can create handling problems and possible damage to the driveline (all the time, not just in snow).  Make sure your work truck is properly equipped to handle all types of road conditions.

Slow Down for Curves
If your work truck is in a four wheel drive and you try to take a curve too fast on snowy roads, the truck’s front wheels can corkscrew, causing your work truck to go straight instead of turning. Just let up on the gas to correct the problem.
