Fuel Economy in a Ford F-150

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Fuel economy isn’t as important to these true truckers as it is to those who would use their pickups as an alternative to cars for everyday city commuting and family hauling, but it is a factor nonetheless.

Those who use pickups as work trucks in their jobs often don’t have other, more fuel-efficient vehicles to drive while away from work, and to them, fuel economy is a real issue.

So while the 2009 F-150, comes with V-8 power, Ford boosted fuel economy by about 8 percent across the entire line, and added special SFE models – that stands for “superior fuel economy” – that have EPA ratings of 21 miles per gallon on the highway.

Use the Right Kind of Gas in Your Work Truck

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Use the Right Kind of Gas
Read your owner’s manual to find out which type of gas the manufacturer recommends for your vehicle. Use a good brand of gas, one with detergent additives that keep the system clean, but don’t buy more expensive premium if the automaker recommends regular.

Maybe you recently purchased a used work truck and the owner’s manual isn’t available.  You can always find information on the internet about your used work truck and how to maintain the best service and what kind of gas to use.

Use Your Air Conditioner Less

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

With just some basic changes in your habits, you may be able to improve the gas mileage in your work truck.  Have you recently purchased a used work truck?  If so, have service done right away.

Use Your Air Conditioning Less
Okay, this is easy to say in the middle of a cold January… use your air conditioner less in your used work truck.  Air conditioning makes the work truck use more gas, so turn it off when you can and roll down the windows.

If you just insist on running the a/c in your work truck or work van, reduce the a/c load by parking in the shade so that your work truck doesn’t heat up as much during short stops. Leave the windows or sunroof cracked slightly if you’ll be right back.

Save Money on Fuel – Watch Your Work Truck Speed

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

You’ve been there before, perhaps even recently:

“The clock reads 9:50AM, your next appointment is at 10AM, and you still have work to do on your current project at 4232 Middle-of-Nowhere Road.”

SpeedLimitSignWhat ends up happening?

As soon as you finish your job, you jump into your cargo van, passenger van, utility truck, flat bed truck, or box truck and rush like a bat out of the underworld to get to your next assignment.  You push the pedal to the metal, baby, and even manage to buy back some of lost time (…though not much).

Unfortunately, you end up spending extra cash (…and way too much) in wasted fuel costs.  According to the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”):

“Drivers can expect a 10- to 15- percent improvement in fuel economy by driving 55 mph instead of 65 mph; and likewise can expect an equivalent decline by driving 65 mph instead of 55 mph. ”

Needless to say, try pacing yourself on the job by keeping an eye on the clock.

Hopefully once it’s time for you to hit the road you won’t need to drive so fast and, in turn, won’t spend all of that extra money on wasted gas.

If interested in learning more about how to maintain a fuel vehicle, come visit us at T&B Auto Sales.   We sell used arkansas work trucks, work vans, and commercial vehicles.
